What they are

Animals, not plants. A sea lily stands on a stalk, which is why it looks like a flower.

Where they stood

In meadows over the great sponge reef, above slabs packed edge to edge with shells. After the reef was gone, heaps of broken stems were among the things that piled up where it had been.
